The deployment of Microsoft 365 holding brought the connection of all heating plants under a single email identity, expanded opportunities for collaboration and information sharing and many other benefits.
Prior to the merger, the individual heating plants operated as separate entities, without any interconnection. Each of them had its own mail domain, used different mail services on different platforms (Exchange, Lotus Notes, open source, etc.) and different mail clients. There were no collaboration tools or common environment for communication.
And it was the high need to collaborate efficiently in a single collaboration environment that triggered the necessary change, which the holding decided to cover through Microsoft 365 cloud services.
The aim was to build a unified environment with a single mail identity, i.e. to create a mail domain mhth.sk for all heating companies in a common functional and efficient environment. Also to create an environment for sharing information on an independent platform, due to the fact that the individual heating companies were not connected to a single corporate data network.
The solution required a multi-forest architecture, thus linking each heating plant to one centralised point. This allowed identities to be secured under one roof in Azure Active Directory and then migrate the 750 or so users who were using the various mail services to Exchange Online. Subsequently, a common collaboration environment was configured in Microsoft Teams and an intranet of the entire heating holding company was built in Sharepoint Online.

The change has brought a number of benefits, such as lower costs for managing the entire infrastructure, increased staff efficiency, as well as securing the flow of information. In addition to a single mail identity, opportunities for collaboration and information sharing were created, as well as internal communication (Intranet).

Some will say that today it can no longer be a problem to create a single mail identity and collaboration platform. But in a heterogeneous environment where hundreds of employees use different services on different platforms and use very different clients, a similar move is a real challenge. Thanks to Microsoft 365, we have also managed to launch a very effective collaborative environment, which in modern, not just pandemic times, is already a prerequisite for working and sharing information.
