Technical production preparation with surgical precision

Summary of the project

MEDIN is one of Europe's largest manufacturers of medical instruments and implants for the fields of traumatology, surgery, orthopaedics and dentistry.

More than half of its business turnover comes from exports. With the implementation of the new SOFTIP MONACO information system, the company has acquired a modern system for the efficient creation and management of complete TPV documentation.

Challenges and requirements

MEDIN's next-generation technical information system SOFTIP MONACO has replaced the SYSKLASS solution used until now.

Main requirements:

  • maintain all standard and customer-specific functionality of IS SYSKLASS,
  • Significant expansion of the possibilities of making mass changes to design and process data within standard change control
  • the existence of import and export functions of standard TPV systems,
  • great emphasis in TPV on certification policy (medical instrument and implant manufacturer),
  • implementation and start-up of the new TPV system in a short period of time, setting up functional data transfers to other company systems: QAD (production system) / Label Database (product packaging data, label printing),
  • simplifying the organizational structure for managing resources/workplaces and simplifying the work with users (boot-up, setting access rights, creating user groups...).

Results and benefits

The implementation of the data, and especially the sharp start of the SOFTIP MONACO system, took place in a very short time, with minimal restrictions for all users. As part of the planned training, most of the SYSKLASS users were subsequently able to continue their activities in the already new SOFTIP MONACO TPV system.

Within the solution, the use of document management (Document Management) IS SOFTIP MONACO was introduced to manage standard and specialized types of documents - such as 2D construction drawings, material specifications, labels, package leaflets, packing slips, or implant cards and their assignment to individual items.

As part of the standard change service, the company makes significant use of the bulk change functionality - this has been supplemented by special user requirements based on customer needs for managing TPV documentation.

The solution includes import functions of IS SOFTIP MONACO for import and update of TPV documentation from external sources.

A data interface was created for transferring the necessary information to ERP QAD, as well as a system for transferring information to the so-called label database - an external system for labelling packaging

It was possible to remove the previously used dials (stock items, municipal and special tools,...) by transferring them to the item level, where they are subject to standard change management with the possibility of using bulk changes.

Creating and populating a new classification map helps to work more efficiently with all items in the system and is a prerequisite for establishing order in the data.
