Brezno Smart City: Data and Technology for More Efficient City Management

Summary of the project

The city of Brezno has long been investing in the modernization of municipal services and the implementation of smart technologies with the aim of improving the quality of life for its residents.

As part of the Brezno Smart City project, the SOFTIP IoT Platform was implemented, enabling the collection, processing, and display of data on parking space occupancy, air quality, and the status of public lighting. The city has thus gained a unified tool for monitoring and evaluating important data in real time.

Challenges and requirements

Today, local governments face growing demands for the efficient management of municipal services, while also needing to provide residents with up-to-date information about what’s happening in the city. Brezno therefore sought a way to gain a better overview of selected areas of urban infrastructure, make relevant data available to the public, and create a reliable foundation for data-driven decision-making. The project focused on three key areas:

  • Smart Parking

The city needed to gain an overview of parking lot occupancy while also providing the public with up-to-date information on available parking spaces. The solution uses camera analytics, information panels, and a web application to display available capacity.

  • Air Quality Monitoring
The requirement was to ensure the continuous collection of air quality data, including temperature, humidity, particulate matter, and the concentrations of selected gases. The data collected make it possible to monitor trends in environmental indicators and support the city’s decision-making.

  • Public Lighting Monitoring
Another component of the project was monitoring the condition and functionality of public lighting through the integration of control units and monitoring tools. The city gained a better overview of the operation of its lighting infrastructure and the ability to respond more effectively to situations as they arise.

Results and benefits

Through the implementation of the Brezno Smart City project, the city has gained a unified platform for monitoring, managing, and analyzing data from various areas of urban life. Up-to-date information on parking, air quality, and the status of street lighting is available in real time, which contributes to more efficient management of municipal services and better public awareness. By implementing this solution, the customer gained:

A Unified Smart City Platform for Monitoring and Managing Key Municipal Services

Real-time updates for residents and visitors to the city

Centralized collection and analysis of data from various technologies
More Effective, Data-Driven Decision-Making by Local Governments

More modern and higher-quality municipal services for the public

State and local government

SOFTIP IoT Platform

„Our goal was not to implement individual technologies, but to create a unified ecosystem that would provide the city with real-time insights into parking, air quality, and street lighting. Brezno has thus gained a data foundation for more efficient city management and the further development of Smart City services.“
