Head of Engineering

We are looking for a Head of Engineering who will take charge of transforming our engineering organization—including our people, processes, technologies, and software development methods.
This role is key to our transition from custom ERP projects to scalable products with high business value.
1. The Transformation of Engineering
– developing and implementing an engineering strategy
– establishing the organizational model, ownership structure, and working methods
– Modernization of the SDLC, development processes, and engineering standards
– deciding what to preserve, what to modernize, and what to build from scratch
– responsibility for the quality, efficiency, and speed of delivery
2. Building a Product Development Team
– identifying opportunities for new products and product lines
– Collaborating with the sales and product teams to validate the market and customer needs
– Leading PoC initiatives and making decisions on technology investments
– prioritizing development based on business value
– Integrating technology, products, and business strategy
3. AI-native development
– Integration of AI throughout the SDLC
– The use of AI in development, testing, and developer productivity
– evaluating AI-first features in products
– practical applications of LLMs and agent-based approaches where they deliver measurable value
4. Technological Direction
– a technological and architectural vision
– cloud-native, API-first, and modular solutions
– the architecture of new products and the modernization of existing solutions
– technology, integration, security, reliability, and observability
– selection of technologies and architectural approaches with a focus on business value
5. Team Leadership
– Leading and developing the engineering team
– Building strong leadership and senior teams
– establishing a culture of technology, ownership, and accountability
6. Evolution of the Existing ERP System
– deciding what to build from scratch, what to integrate, and what to gradually replace
– technological modernization of the existing solution
– ensuring compatibility, integration, and the gradual evolution of the platform
– a genuine mandate to transform engineering, not merely to manage the status quo
– a significant influence on SOFTIP's technological direction
– the opportunity to build a modern product engineering department
– the ability to transform people, processes, technologies, and the way development is carried out
– the ability to develop products from scratch„

Although the number of years of experience may not be the be-all and end-all, we estimate that you should have at least 8 years of experience in a similar position. What areas are important to us?
1. Engineering Leadership
– Experience at the level of CTO, Director of Engineering, Head of Engineering, or a comparable senior leadership position
– the ability to build and transform teams, processes, and culture
– a natural leader among senior technical staff
2. Transformation and Product
– Demonstrable experience in engineering or product development transformation
– Experience with greenfield projects and product development
– the ability to connect technology, products, customers, and business
3. Technological Expertise
– a deep understanding of software engineering and architecture
– Experience with the cloud, APIs, modern architectures, and the SDLC
– Azure is an advantage
– Experience with CI/CD and DevSecOps is a plus
– Familiarity with .NET and web technologies is a plus
– practical experience with AI/LLM in the software development process
4. Business & Strategic Thinking
– the ability to make decisions regarding technology investments
– the ability to strike a balance between speed, quality, cost, and long-term value
– the ability to turn a technological vision into concrete results
ABOUT WORKING FROM HOME:
You can work at one of our nine SOFTIP locations (BB, DT, ZA, NR, BA, KE, PE, RK, TN) in combination with working from home (up to 40/60) or work entirely from home. In both cases, however, it’s important that you’re able to come to the office in Banská Bystrica—initially about 2–3 days a week, and later as needed.
