One platform is enough to bring a city into the digital age. It can aggregate and process data from air quality sensors, data on the functionality of public lighting, parking occupancy or traffic junction utilisation. And turn it into comprehensive and accurate information in a clear form according to the user's preferences. The first Slovak municipalities are already putting this technology from SOFTIP into operation.

SOFTIP IoT Platform enables continuous monitoring and evaluation of data obtained by cameras, sensors, weather stations, etc. It can use not only its own pre-integrated sensors, but also those already installed by the municipality. It then processes the data and provides the user with an output in a predefined form and structure.

 

 

Active and real-time

 

This is not just passive monitoring, but the creation of a digital model of the monitored system using machine learning, which allows active alerting of changes and deviations from normal. „A typical example might be monitoring the condition of bridge structures, water or gas leaks. In short, events that require intervention. The person responsible will receive immediate notification of these and can therefore take immediate action,“ says Marek Sedliak, Sales Director of ESS Division and Innovation Director at SOFTIP.

Another area of use of the IoT Platform is traffic management in the city. It makes parking very easy for residents and visitors because it evaluates the occupancy of specific parking spaces in real time and can direct drivers to available ones using information led panels. It also actively assists traffic management by collecting and evaluating data on the nature and intensity of traffic on selected sections.

 

Using infrared cameras, it can remotely scan road surface and measure what its temperature is, the thickness of the water film or snow layer. And based on this, display information for drivers, optimise speed or winter maintenance. When it detects oncoming vehicles, for example at motorway exits, it not only triggers a warning sign, but immediately informs the road operator and identifies the car that is endangering other drivers in this way.

 

Transport is also closely related air quality. SOFTIP's solution is able to integrate and subsequently process information on temperature, humidity, dustiness or CO2 concentration from weather stations. Together with parking lot monitoring, these functionalities are used for example by Brezno. The IoT Platform can also monitor public lighting in cities. It identifies lamps that are not working, with its help it can control their intensity or switch off individual lighting branches.

 

 

Quick and easy deployment

 

The interface is very intuitive and user-friendly. The actual deployment of the IoT Platform and its integration with existing solutions and sensors is a matter of a few weeks. „It uses cloud computing as standard and so does not require the customer to invest in their own computing, operation and maintenance. But of course we can also deploy the solution on-premise. In both cases, connecting the individual data collection points does not require any data or electrical cables. Everything works remotely wherever the GSM network is available and requires only minimal maintenance. Communication is automatic and the system is constantly learning and refining itself based on the data collected,“ he concludes Marek Sedliak.
