SOFTIP helps with its blood drop even during a pandemic

The need for blood is great. It chooses neither time nor place. In Slovakia alone, approximately 180 000 transfusion units are consumed each year, worldwide it is up to 26.5 million units of blood components. However, as a result of the ongoing emergency caused by the coronavirus, the number of donors has fallen significantly, which has resulted in reduced blood supplies. The situation is serious.

Therefore, SOFTIP, which has been organising voluntary blood donations for several years now, took an active stance at the turn of October and November. And although the SOFTIP DROP OF BLOOD this time in connection with the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic could not take place in the form of a mobile collection in Europa SC in Banská Bystrica, SOFTIP found a way to support blood donation also during the emergency situation. It invited its employees and the general public to take part in this voluntary and noble act, and the mobile collection was replaced by an in-person collection.

During the last two weeks of October, people had the opportunity to personally donate blood at any of the National Transfusion Service workplaces across Slovakia. In addition to the good feeling of helping other people, they were also motivated by valuable prizes.

The winner of the weekend stay for 2 persons in the Tatry Mountain Resorts hotel chain was Barbora B. from Banská Bystrica and the winner of the JBL Charge 4 portable speaker was Marek Š. from Liptovský Mikuláš.

„We would like to congratulate the winners and thank all donors for their support and for seeing the sense in voluntary blood donation,“ said Martin Vlčko, member of the Board of Directors and CFO of SOFTIP. „At the same time, we would like to call on all those who can donate blood to not hesitate and do so, because patients depend on blood regardless of the circumstances, even in times of pandemics. Health is not a given.“
